The Kremlin no longer believes that US President Donald Trump can force Ukraine to sign a peace agreement on Russian terms. Therefore, Moscow plans to intensify its attacks and is preparing for a prolonged war.
According to informed sources, if Trump's position in the US weakens after the midterm elections, it will significantly impact the course of the war.
Moscow will seek ways to lift American sanctions, trying to convince Trump that it is possible to do business without waiting for the end of the war in Ukraine. At the same time, it is unlikely that Trump will more actively support Kyiv and Europe if the Republican Party loses to the Democrats in the congressional elections.
"He may have less room for maneuver to force Zelensky to sign an agreement, and this, in turn, may give Putin a free hand to intensify attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure," the sources note.
