Kremlin head Vladimir Putin has placed Russian assets of the Japanese company Japan Tobacco International (JTI), one of the world's largest cigarette manufacturers, under state control.
This refers to four factories that employ around 4,000 people, with the company controlling approximately 40% of the Russian cigarette market.
According to Putin's decree of November 5, JTI's shares in four Russian enterprises were transferred to the management of the Russian company AO "Industrial Assets".
The factories under control are located in St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Lipetsk, and Leningrad regions.
The Kremlin did not explain the reasons for this decision in the decree. However, this is another case of transferring foreign business assets to Russian control, which continued to operate in Russia after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
